Lone Piper off the mark

LONE Piper gained a first career success when taking a 1m2f handicap at Windsor on Monday afternoon.

LONE Piper gained a first career success when taking a 1m2f handicap at Windsor on Monday afternoon.

The son of Kingman, owned by Merry Fox Stud Ltd, was having his sixth career start and deserved this win having been narrowly denied at Yarmouth in July.

He was settled towards the rear of the field by Jack Mitchell but was in a good rhythm and travelling smoothly in first-time blinkers.

With half a mile to run Jack was still at the rear but he weaved through the whole pack to hit the front inside the final furlong.

Once in front, Lone Piper idled slightly but the line came in time and he won by a neck.

Tom said: "This horse deserved to win one and I am thrilled for his owner/breeder Craig Bennett. He has shown promise in his work at home and hopefully he can build on this success."
