WE were thrilled to have our first winner at Newcastle when Crack On Boys landed the restricted maiden on Tuesday night.

Owned by The Galivanters, Crack On Boys finished fourth on his debut at Lingfield in December and stepped up on that effort to win in style under Jack Mitchell.

Jack settled the son of Cracksman at the rear of the six-runner field in the early stages.

The pace was not a strong one but he settled well and travelled strongly throughout. Once Jack asked him for an effort, he picked up well to quicken past his rivals to win by over four lengths.

Tom said: "It's great to get the Newcastle monkey off our back - we have had so many placed horses there so delighted to tick that one off the list. He's a nice colt - he came forward a lot for his first run and should be a fun horse going forward."
